The island is beautiful\u2014truly quintessentially Greek, with colorful houses along the harbor\u2014and incredibly cozy because there are hardly any cars. The rocky and barren island measure only 10km long and has a permanent population of just 300 people. The crossing from Kamiros Skala to Chalki takes around 50 minutes. Departures operate on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> There are no car or bicycle rentals available on Chalki but the island is easily walkable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a little over an hour, I arrived at the port of Chalki on the Dodecanese Seaways ferry from Rhodes Town. Prices here are slightly higher than in Rhodes, since food and drinks have to be shipped here from Rhodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"things-to-do-on-chalki\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things to do on Chalki<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chalki Island has managed to preserve its <strong>distinct character and offers you rest, simplicity and&nbsp;a peacful holiday<\/strong>. Already a few hours on the small island can be enough to get acquainted with the island and ease into the&nbsp;<strong>slow pace of life&nbsp;<\/strong>of the locals. In addition to the colorful neoclassical houses and villas in Emborio and the narrow alleys, there are a few other highlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"the-church-of-agios-nikolaos\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Church of Agios Nikolaos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Church-of-Agios-Nikolaos-Chalki-Island-Greece.jpg\" alt=\"Church of Agios Nikolaos Chalki Island Greece\" class=\"wp-image-9461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Church-of-Agios-Nikolaos-Chalki-Island-Greece.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Church-of-Agios-Nikolaos-Chalki-Island-Greece-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Church-of-Agios-Nikolaos-Chalki-Island-Greece-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Church-of-Agios-Nikolaos-Chalki-Island-Greece-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bell tower of Agios Nikolaos, built in 1861 from marble taken from the ancient Temple of Apollo, is also the tallest bell tower in the Dodecanese. Together with the clock tower, the bell tower of Agios Nikolaos defines the Emborio skyline, and it\u2019s always a spectacular sight when we sail into the harbor on the ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wskaz\u00f3wka:<\/strong> Situated righ below the church is <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/U5P58sq2bQc9vus89\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/U5P58sq2bQc9vus89\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Magefseis Restaurant-Tavern<\/a>a where I had lunch after my arrival. The food was top quality and the service ver friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"the-windmills-of-chalki\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Windmills of Chalki<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Windmills-of-Chalki-Island.jpg\" alt=\"Windmills of Chalki Island\" class=\"wp-image-9462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Windmills-of-Chalki-Island.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Windmills-of-Chalki-Island-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Windmills-of-Chalki-Island-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Windmills-of-Chalki-Island-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The windmills of Chalki are located on a hill above Emborio. Since they are an important part of the island\u2019s history, they have been renovated, though they are no longer in operation today. I arrived at 09:30am and had until 16:30pm until I left on the return to Rhodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"hiking-trails-hike-the-nimborio-chorio-palarniotis-path\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking Trails: Hike the Nimborio\u2013Chorio\u2013Palarniotis path<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chalki has numerous hiking trails that are ideal for hiking enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting from Nimborio, this hiking trail passes by the Byzantine chapel of Agioi Anargyroi, the ancient domed tomb near Spilios tou Arapi, the old olive press in Chorio, Kato Vriti with its old well and large pine tree, and Pano Vriti (the oldest well in Chorio).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Chalki-Island-Cemetery.jpg\" alt=\"Chalki Island Cemetery\" class=\"wp-image-9466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Chalki-Island-Cemetery.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Chalki-Island-Cemetery-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Chalki-Island-Cemetery-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/islandhopperrhodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Chalki-Island-Cemetery-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Chalki Island old Cemetery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> It then crosses the old cemetery, which contains the Church of the Transfiguration before emerging into an area with beehives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"where-to-stay-on-chalki\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to stay on Chalki?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chalki has only a handful of hotels and guest houses with the majority located in Nimborio close to the harbour. Many of them are quite pricy. My recommendation is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/gr\/villa-antonis-halki.en-gb.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/gr\/villa-antonis-halki.en-gb.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored\">Villa Antonis<\/a>, located on the southern side of the harbour without many steps to climb. I met a couple who were staying there and the told me the rooms were spacious and stylish with stunning views of the port from the balcony. I recommend that you <strong>book your stay well&nbsp;in advance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"beaches\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chalki Beaches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of Chalki&#8217;s beaches are easyly accessible on foot from the main town of Nimboria and offer basic visitor amenities.
