The small medieval village of Lindos, dominated by an ancient acropolis, is a major tourist attraction on the popular holiday island of Rhodes. The Acropolis rock, with a delicate little temple behind mighty castle walls, is the crowning jewel of the white village. In this post, we’ll share with you the best things to do in Lindos, whether you are staying there or just visiting for the day.

Lindos winds its way up a green hillside like a sash from the sea, nestled between the Acropolis and the burial cave rocks. The entire settlement stretches all the way to two beaches. Life still pulsates in the narrow alleys even in the evening.

Lindos was once the capital of the island of Rhodes and is now a picturesque village with cobblestone streets and white houses that slope down toward the sea. The town has plenty of character and offers a delightful mix of ancient and modern attractions.
The azure sea, the white houses clustered at the foot of the Acropolis, the ancient theater, and the winding alleys—all the ingredients are there to ensure that the quintessential Greek vacation magic unfolds during a stay in Lindos.

I stayed in Lindos for a whole week exploring every corner of the village and its surrounding beaches. Follow me to the best spots.
Lindos is beautiful — but it’s not designed for effortless movement. Staying here in all honestey means accepting a slower pace, more steps, and fewer spontaneous hops. But its a trade-off well worth it for the special atmosphere of the town.
The entire old village is car-free. All parking areas are located just outside the whitewashed village. Coming from Rhodes you will find the first big parking area (A) at the highest elevation. This is a day parking area for your arrival day only.

If you stay longer, you will have to move your vehicle to one of the lower parking areas (B, C or St. Pauls Bay Parking). Those are still very close to the city and easily reachable on foot. Parking costs €7 per day and you can come and go as often as you wish. There are free golf cart transfers to bring you to your accommodation.
There is a wide range of accommodation in Lindos, from 1-5 stars and from all-inclusive to self-catering.
I treated myself with a stay at Melenos Art Boutique Hotel. Melenos Lindos is a unique hotel that provides hospitality and personal service to its guests. This is not all about facilities but the experience. Melenos Lindos Exclusive Suites enjoy a prime location on the north side of the ancient Acropolis, below the Temple of Athena, with spectacular sea views. Styled with respect to the local architecture, each room contains a unique selection of fabrics, ceramics and special items from the owner’s personal collection.

After spending two weeks exploring the region, I’ve created this list of the best things to do in Lindos to help you make the most of your time in town. Follow my recommended route throught the white village:

Before 9 am, Lindos feels almost private. Shops slowly open, cats stretch in doorways, and the white streets glow softly instead of reflecting harsh sun.

Use this time for your perfect stroll as its the best — and most authentic — time to explore.
The third most-visited archaeological site in Greece is also one of the most picturesque and bears traces of more than five thousand years of history. You can buy tickets in advance online (€20) or join a guided tour to explore the vast site.

The Acropolis of Lindos and the listed village of the same name nestled at its feet are an absolute must-see when visiting Rhodes. The incredibly authentic village is located 45 km from the city of Rhodes in a beautiful bay dotted with fabulous sandy beaches and is a very charming place with cobblestone alleyways and whitewashed houses in typical Greek style sloping down toward the sea. However, Lindos is not only a world-renowned vacation destination but also a place of great historical interest.

Whether you undertake the somewhat arduous climb on foot to the impressive fortress or opt for the more comfortable ride up on a donkey, a highly interesting archaeological site and an unforgettable view await you once you reach the top.
The village of Lindos was built on the ruins of ancient Lindos. A few traces of that era still remain, such as the ancient theater on the edge of the modern settlement. The Acropolis of Lindos, however, is the most prominent monument. It is the monumental citadel of the ancient sanctuary of Athena Lindia, which later became the Crusader fortress of the Knights of St. John.

The two sandy beaches along the large bay are beautiful but crowded: Líndos Main Beach (also accessible by car) and the smaller Pállas Beach (accessible only on foot). Both feature gently sloping golden sand and crystal-clear water.

There are two small sandy and pebble beaches to be found at the heart-shaped St. Paul’s Bay (Ágios Pávlos). The bay is surrounded by a ring of cliffs, which provides good protection for the water and the seabed from ocean currents. The result: breathtakingly clear water and virtually no waves. In other words, perfect conditions for a day at the beach. Many swimmers climb up the cliffs to jump back into the sea from the top.
Some tips for cliff jumping:
Cliff jumping is definitely worth it and is an experience in a class of its own when you dive from 7–8 meters into the crystal-clear sea, which is deep all the way to the bottom. However, caution is required when climbing, as the sharp-edged rocks can cause serious injuries if you slip. Therefore, assess yourself and your abilities accurately.

Beach infrastructure:
You can’t go on holiday to a place like Lindos, which has one of the clearest seas you’ll ever see, and not go out on it!

Depart from the jetty at Pallas Beach on a glass-bottom boat for crystal clear views of fish and sea. Or soak up the sun with your feet dipping into the turquoise waters on a lazy day cruise. Don’t miss Lion Rock, look out for cormorants and take in the stunning view of the hill-top Acropolis towering over the town.
Yes. Lindos works well for first-time visitors who prioritise atmosphere, beauty, and memorable evenings over convenience. You’ll experience one of the most iconic places in Greece with stunning views, historic streets, and unique character, but also more steps & crowds than other areas.
Lindos and Faliraki suit different travel styles. Lindos means history, boutique stays, iconic scenery while Faliraki means sandy beaches, families, plenty of nightlife options. Lindos is better for atmosphere and character while Faliraki is better for space, sand, and flexibility.
