The lively resort town of Faliraki is located on the northeast coast of Rhodes, just about 15 kilometers south of Rhodes Town. It is less than 20 km from the airport, and the drive takes about 20 minutes.

The four-kilometer-long beach in Faliraki is undoubtedly one of the most popular beaches on Rhodes. This is partly due to the many hotels in Faliraki, but also because the beach features fine golden sand and shallow water. The southern part of the beach is the best and therefore the most popular.
Which beaches should I not miss?

This idyllic beach, with its soft, white-yellow sand, stretches for over four kilometers along the island’s east coast. There are many areas with sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as showers, small changing rooms, and restrooms. During the summer months, the beach is monitored by lifeguards.
Faliraki Beach can be roughly divided into three sections: The southern part is also known as the main beach and borders directly on the resort town of Faliraki. The middle section is a bit wilder and less developed, partly because pebbles sometimes mix in with the soft sand here.

Large, luxurious hotels have set up shop on the northern part of the beach and placed their sun loungers right by the water.
Beach Facts:

Just north of Faliraki, lies Anthony Quinn Bay. Surrounded by imposing rock formations, its waters are emerald green. With its lush vegetation and palm trees lining the shore, it’s an ideal vacation spot. Anthony Quinn Bay is a stunning beach that attracts hundreds of tourists every year. I visited early morning in September and the beach was still surprisingly empty. I also noticed that it is much quiter the more you move west along the narrow shore.

Since the waters and shoreline are very rocky, snorkeling is the favorite activity among holidaymakers. There are also water sports options such as renting a kayak or SUP to explore the bay on water.

People love to sunbathe in this open bay while admiring the crystal-clear waters.
Ladiko Bay, located about 20 km south of Rhodes Town, is a family-friendly and well-organized beach with small pebbles.

The beach also features a diving club and is known for the small cove where the famous actor Antony Quinn used to swim while filming on the island. The beach offers a beautiful, naturally wild atmosphere.
Plaka Beach, nestled near Faliraki, is a serene escape ideal for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. Just a stone’s throw from the bustling Anthony Quinn Bay, this beach features a blend of soft sand and pebbles along its shoreline.

Surrounded by lush hills, Plaka Beach offers picturesque views that add to its its charm.
The stunning azure waters invite you to dive in for an unforgettable snorkeling experience among vibrant marine life. The rocks can be a little sharp and slippery. So definitely bring water shoes as there’s no sand. It’s more like a cliff face.
Erimokastro Beach is a wild, rocky coastal spot located between Traganou Beach and Ladiko Bay. The bay is set below the ruined Minoan age fortress of Erimokastro. The archaeological site offers hiking opportunities, giving you the chance to find ruins and fossils around the rocks.
Traganou Beach, located on the northeast shore of Rhodes Island, offers a serene and unspoiled atmosphere due to its pebbled surface that deters large crowds. Before the arrival of tourism, the beach’s imposing caves served a very specific purpose for the locals: they had built small salt storage facilities there.

The beach is a very quiet family oriented beach. Parking is great, lots of space and it’s free. Since the beach has many pebbles everywhere so, I highly recommend wearing water shoes if you are sensitive on your feet. The water is very clear, so bring your snorkelling gear with you.

The beach also features Traganou Cave on its north side for exploration. The region’s natural topography gave rise to the famous salt marshes, which extend beyond the beach and where locals harvested large quantities of salt. The high salt content of the water gives the region’s fish and seafood a particularly delicious flavor. If sandy beaches aren’t your thing, Traganou Beach will captivate you.
To the north of Faliraki, Oasis, Tasos and Nikolas Beach are located just before you reach Kallithea Springs. Oasis can be characterized as an actual beach, Tassos and Nikolas are more like rock baths with jetties and sunbeds. You will need a car to get to those beaches. Those less smaller visited beaches have little to no infrastructure, so make sure to bring with you whatevere you need.
Oasis Beach is one of Rhodes island’s best-kept secrets. Despite its proximity to the resort town of Faliraki, Oasis Beach is mostly frequented by locals looking to relax.

Along the sharp cliff face surrounding the Kalithea Hot Springs, there are a total of four small coves. Oasis Beach is arguably the most scenic of them. Sheltered by several large rocks, you’ll find yourself in a little paradise of relaxation.

The beach bar is located in a rock cave, offering cool drinks, iconic cocktails, and laid-back beach music. The Oasis Beach Bar boasts a prime beachfront location with uninterrupted views of the sparkling Aegean Sea, known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. When I visited the beach bar was unfortunately closed. The locals could not tell me if this was temporary or not.

Rhodes’ diverse rocky coastline gives every beach on the island a magical charm. At Tasos Beach, blue umbrellas, along with sunbeds, are set up in shallow pools of water surrounded by rocks. You may find a large beachfront restaurant open where you can enjoy some delicious seafood (when I visited it was closed).
Faliraki isn’t the most charming resort on Rhodes, but it offers the widest range of amenities and the most affordable hotels; plus, it’s easy to reach, and you can choose from several nearby beaches.
Faliraki is located along the east coast of Rhodes, about 12 km south of Rhodes Town. Administratively, it is part of the municipality of Kallithea.
Getting to Faliraki is really easy, as the town is located only 15 km from Rhodes Airport, an international hub connected to many destinations via low-cost flights. From Rhodes Airport, you can reach Faliraki by bus—changing lines in Rhodes Town—or by taking a taxi. The best option, however, is to rent a car at the airport and keep it for the duration of your stay.
Yes, with its large sandy beach with shallow waters, the water park, and a variety of accommodations, Faliraki is ideal for families.
