I spent 3 weeks in Rhodes travelling around the whole island in a full loop along its beautiful coastline. The island, the largest of the Dodecanese, offers a combination of beautiful beaches, plenty of sunshine, a rich culture with historical sites such as the medieval old town of Rhodes Town and the Acropolis of Lindos, as well as delicious Greek cuisine and diverse landscapes, from the coast to the mountains.

I’ve selected the following places based on their location or the comfort they offer—and which, in my opinion, provide the best experience (I’ve stayed there, visited them, or friends have spent a few days there).

Where to stay in Rhodes

The best time to visit Rhodes is April, May and September through November. However, if you don’t mind the heat and aren’t bothered by the crowds of tourists, you can of course also visit the island in summer, from June to August. If you’re considering visiting this wonderful island, here are my top tips on the best place to stay in Rhodes.

How to find the best place to stay in Rhodes?

If you want to be sure to find that hidden gem, it’s important to decide on the length of your stay first! For a vacation lasting just a few days, the best towns to consider are Rhodes and Lindos – due to their tourist attractions and things to do.

For a long stay, you have every opportunity to choose several bases from which you can explore the entire island on a road trip. Or simply settle wherever you like. In that case, I recommend renting a car in Rhodes, even though public transportation is fairly well-developed.

What is the best place to stay in Rhodes?

When it comes to where to stay in Rhodes, then it first depends on how long you are on the island, and your travel style, with Rhodes Town, Lindos, and Faliraki standing out as the top areas.

I loved Rhodes Old Town for its history. But I also really enjoyed Faliraki for its beaches and towns like Lindos for its mixture of beautiful architecture, a taste of traditional Greek life, and being closer to the sea.

1. Rhodes Town

Staying in the Old Town is perfect if you want to start your holiday right in the centre of it all, surrounded by history, cobblestone streets and centuries-old architecture. Staying here means you can explore on foot, wander charming squares, visit museums and enjoy plenty of traditional tavernas nearby. It’s lively during the day but tends to quiet down at night once the day-trippers leave.

The new town, on the other hand, is bursting with life. It’s home to shops, restaurants, cafés, and a wide variety of entertainment options. The Mandraki Harbor is a central hub of the city, dominated by the famous deer statues of Rhodes. Elli Beach is one of the most popular beaches thanks to its clear waters and diverse water sports.

2. Faliraki

Faliraki is one of the most popular villages in Rhodes island, which is famous in Greece for its nightlife, long pedestrian street and bustling atmospheres. The village lies about 15 kilometers away from the airport, and just 12 kilometers away from the capital of the island. In the center of the village souvenir shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and a lot of music bars are waiting for guests. The nightlife is significant in the clubs, most of the local karaoke and cocktail bars are getting filled during the summer nights.

Lindos, located just 50 km south from Rhodes town, is what you imagine for a Greece holiday with poscard views and romantic old town athmosphere. The stunning white village sits on a hill towered by the famous Acropolis of Lindos, surrounded by beautiful blue bays and sandy beaches. Stay in Lindos if you love charming lanes and evening rooftop dining.

During your stay, you can admire the well-preserved ruins of the Temple of Athena Lindia and enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. The village itself features cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, artisan shops, and traditional taverns! In my opinion, even a day trip to Lindos is well worth the effort and can be easily reached from most of the island./im
