Pros for viting Rhodes in October

In general, October is a good time to visit Rhodes. The weather in Rhodes in October is usually mild, with pleasant air and sea temperatures and plenty of sunshine, making it an ideal time for active vacations and relaxing days at the beach.
Keep in mind though that rain is possible, so it’s advisable to be prepared for it. It’s also worth noting that in some remote areas, certain businesses may be closed for the season. Overall, October is an ideal and very affordable time to explore Rhodes.

Yes, swimming is generally still possible in Rhodes in October, especially at secluded beaches. I spent several days at the beach in Faliraki. The water was pleasant and calm, especially on windless days. However, when stronger winds picked up, the water felt noticeably cooler.
As summer draws to a close and the days grow shorter, the most beautiful travel season of the year begins on a very special island in Greece. The heat gives way to milder temperatures, nature is ablaze with warm colors, and the crowds of tourists begin to thin out. Now is the perfect time to plan a special trip and escape the gloom.
Rhodes Town is a great place to visit for culture and city life in October, especially when the weather becomes more unpredictable. I visited Rhodes Town at the end of my 2 week road trip and this turned out to be a good decisionas it enabled me to flexibly swap beach days for sightseeing when the weather changed.

The medieval old town, with its massive walls, feels like a maze. At the harbor, you can enjoy the island’s maritime charm. Elli Beach is located right near the city yet still offered that beach vibe I was looking for. Rhodes Town feels much livelier than Lindos for example. At the same time, it’s much more relaxed in October than during peak season.

Watching the sunset is also an essential on Rhodes, and October offers the perfect backdrop for this natural spectacle. There are several beautiful spots on the island where you can watch the fiery sun descend towards the horizon. My favourite is Mandraki Harbour, where you can watch the bright colours of the sun reflect in the calm waters.

Lindos is one of the most popular destinations on Rhodes, especially during the summer months. In October when peak season is over, many visitors have already left, and the town’s atmosphere gets much more relaxed. Restaurants, shops, and beaches are all still open, and the town is the perfect destination for a day trip.

In the very south of the island, the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea meet. On one side, surfers ride the waves, while the other side is calmer. You can walk across the narrow sandbank to the little peninsula and climb the hill. From up there, you can see both seas.
Rhodes is a hiker’s paradise in the fall—mild light, crisp air, and vast landscapes turning golden. If you explore the island on foot during this time of year, you’ll quickly sense how peaceful and invigorating it feels.

Attavyros: The island’s highest mountain, Attavyros (1,215 m), is an absolute highlight for anyone looking for a bit of a challenge. The hike usually starts in the small mountain village of Embonas, known for its wine and its unspoiled character. From there, a narrow trail winds through fragrant pine forests, past scattered olive groves and rugged rock formations.

The higher you climb, the more the view opens up—to the deep-blue sea and the neighboring islands. At the very top stands a small temple once dedicated to Zeus Atavyrios—a place where history, sky, and sea merge. The ascent and descent take about 4 to 5 hours; sturdy footwear is required.
Away from the coast, traditional, small mountain villages such as Embonas, Siana or Laerma await you. Here, time seems to stand still: the narrow alleyways are filled with the scent of fresh bread and wild oregano, and you’ll often be greeted by locals with a warm smile. Many tavernas serve homemade dishes made from regional ingredients – perfect for a delightful break after a hike.

Yes, Rhodes is worth a visit in October. However, you should adjust your expectations. The weather can be unpredictable, and some attractions may close early. On the other hand, you’ll enjoy fewer crowds, more peace and quiet, and a relaxed atmosphere.
If you’re traveling to Rhodes in October, it’s essential to pack versatile clothing suitable for changing temperatures. For pleasant days, opt for lightweight short-sleeved T-shirts and shorts. For cooler evenings, pack a long-sleeved shirt, a light sweater, and a jacket. In case of rain, also bring a waterproof jacket and a compact umbrella.
Sun protection is also very important for a trip to Rhodes in October. The Mediterranean sun can be very intense even in the fall.
